Greetings and thank you for reading this post,
I am Karl Davis. I feel honoured to have been requested to post on this forum. I am proud of what this community stands for, hence why I didn’t hesitate to make a post.
Will we ever forget the year of 2020? I really don’t think I can forget it any time soon. We had the global pandemic. The ‘Quarantine/ lockdown’. The BLM civil rights movement on back of George Floyd’s killing. Worldwide protests. Unemployment rates flying through the roof. Big companies going down. Everyone where possible ‘Working from home’. Seeing family and friends via Zoom calls. The year of 2020 impacted us all in some way or another.
I had a moment where I sat back and reflected on the year, and this was just in March, only the first quarter! I thought about all that was happening around us and I realised these really are historical moments that we are living through. It saddened me when I realised the challenges some people were facing with the increase of job insecurity, the number of families impacted by losing loved ones, and people feeling like prisoners in their own homes.
This gave me the drive to think about how I could do my part in helping people in this season of crisis. Now with me knowing how powerful words are, and knowing that they can either build someone up, or tear them down; I wanted to create something of value for people to truly benefit from. I also wanted to give them actionable steps that they can apply to help improve their current situation. Sometimes a word of guidance can really change things when we are navigating our way through a metaphorical ‘Storm’. We all have those pieces of advice we were given at a young age that stick with us for the rest of our lives. So I decided I wanted to create something that would not just help people now in 2020, but also in 10, 20 years time and more.
So I began writing my book, Own Your Crisis, in the quarantine period. I put in untold hours of research and effort into writing it to ensure every single person that read it will take something from it, feel empowered, and more ready than ever to take ownership when life throws challenges in their direction. I had written more than half of the book before knowing what I was going to call it, but I was still confident that the right title would come to me at some point. Then the name Own Your Crisis came to mind and this really epitomised everything I was trying to put across with the book. The book acknowledges that life will come with challenges and that this is something we cannot always escape. And I take you through a step-by-step process to give you the tools you need to be strong enough when you are in your challenging situation.
A crisis could be losing a loved one, getting fired from a job, a relationship coming to an end, a business failure and many other examples. I regard a crisis in the book as a life changing moment.
A crisis for myself was finding my feet as a young man career wise. It sometimes felt like I was battling against a tide when choosing the entrepreneurship path, even though in my heart I knew this is what I was made for. It meant winning the battle over the inner voice inside me. Self belief is one of the most important things we need to succeed in life. When I found peace during the process regardless of whether everything on the road ahead was clearly mapped out, I hit a turning point and I really hope that my book can be a catalyst to change and improvement in your life.
